Hypnosis is a natural and comfortable state characterized by increased mental, emotional and physical comfort and relaxation.
You may already experience this state when you are involved in a creative project, watch a movie, read a book or daydream. During hypnosis you remain fully conscious, but are able to tune out distractions.

What Is the Difference between the Subconscious and the Conscious?
The conscious mind is critical, analytical, reasoning, and intellectual. It makes decisions, directs our movement and activities but cannot implement our intentions unless the subconscious is in agreement.
The subconscious controls breathing, blood circulation and involuntary functions. It is always awake, records and stores memories, is very literal, accepts everything as presented and is home to habitual behavior.
During hypnosis the conscious mind gets put aside temporarily and the subconscious mind becomes dominant, energized and alert. Old memories can be accessed, belief systems can be updated and unwanted behaviors transformed into more positive and constructive ones.
An example of what happens when the conscious and subconscious do not agree is: You may consciously want to quit smoking and may have tried not to smoke. If you still smoke, it is probable that you subconscious maintains a belief, from when you began smoking, that smoking is essential and not smoking is damaging. You will be successful when the subconscious recognizes your old false beliefs and replaces them with your new desires and goals. I have seen many people amazed at their own ability to easily and permanently quit smoking or eliminate other unwanted habits with hypnosis.

Can a Hypnotist Make Me Do Something Against My Will?
No one can make you do anything you do not want to. Fear of hypnosis often begins with seeing a stage hypnotist instruct a subject to behave in an unusual way. It is important to know that people who are hypnotized on the state are doing so because they have consented. They can stop anytime they want.

What Is Self Hypnosis and How Do I Practice?
Essentially all hypnosis is self-hypnosis but during hypnotherapy the hypnotist is the guide. In self-hypnosis a recorded session guides you. You can do it at your convenience and you do not need a hypnotherapist to be present. Self Hypnosis draws on the relaxation response, helping your body relax and directing your mind in a positive direction. Positive suggestions and affirmations reduce stress, increase self confidence, and reinforce beneficial behavior. Daily Self Hypnosis reinforces the positive changes you desire. Can Self Hypnosis Be As Effective As Hypnosis With A Hypnosis Professional?
Self Hypnosis can be just as effective in many cases as hypnosis with a professional. But there are factors to take into consideration. Self Hypnosis is a skill like any other that requires training and practice. The more you practice self-hypnosis the better you become. If you are trying to change a behavior pattern or create a new one where there are no core issues involved self hypnosis is just as effective. If there are core issues involved, it is best to work with a professional who can guide your awareness into the deeper issues and help you deal with them.
